| Sally manages the Design and Development
Centre (DDC) at the Open
Polytechnic of New Zealand. DDC's role is to plan, design,
develop and publish learning materials in a range of media. Sally
manages teams of instructional designers, editors, project managers,
educational technologists, Mac operators and graphic designers.
Since starting her professional life as a classroom teacher
of modern languages, Sally has had 25 years experience in the
field of open and distance education. Over a long period at
the Correspondence School she worked as a teacher, course writer,
audio editor, instructional designer, curriculum co-ordinator
and project manager for course development. She was Manager,
Educational Resources from 1991 to 2000. Sally has been a member
of DEANZ since the early 80's, a national executive member since
1993 and was Vice President in 1999 and 2000.
Sally is especially interested in quality in learning materials
- in all media - and in the provision of focused, targeted learning
support for students. "Learning materials must be really
accessible and 'do-able' for students, otherwise we undermine
all the potential benefits of open and distance and flexible
learning both for the student and for the provider."
